Common Questions about Roof Repair - FAQs
What is the proper way to inspect a roof?
It's not so much knowing the proper way to inspect a roof, but knowing what signs to look for that let you know a professional roof repair is needed.
First, and though it may seem silly, get a sturdy ladder, have someone on the ground stabilize it, and then climb onto your roof. Look for loose shingles or tiles. In case of a flat roof, look for cracks or worn areas especially around A/C units, chimneys, or venting fans. Also look for any areas that are buckling or may just seem worn or damaged (especially if there have been severe storms recently).
If the pitch of your roof is steep, just climb to the edge of the roof and look for damage. You don't have to be on top of the roof to see damage. Besides, attempting to climb on a steep angled roof without proper safety equipment can be very dangerous. If you have an attic, inspect it for signs of water damage.
Just as it's important to properly inspect your roof, it's just as important to make sure you do it on a regular basis. We recommend at a minimum twice a year, and in case of severe weather (you know the kind that breaks tree limbs, etc.) always get the ladder out and make sure your roof didn't suffer any damage.
It may seem obvious to say this, but the best way to ensure you have a thorough inspection is to have a professional roofing repair company perform the inspection. And I guarantee you, we won't fall off the roof while doing it.
